Blaming management
In the past few years, I have seen the agile community, agile coaches, and Scrum Masters blame and criticise management. I have done it, too, but with more experience, one learns from one's mistakes and finds better ways to do things.
Posting and starting conversations with managers by saying they don’t get agile and are not managing correctly is just wrong. It is not the way to start a conversation with them. When we have cracks at the managers, it sounds like, "Hey mate, you're doing it wrong, and this is how you do it!". I'm afraid that's not right on multiple fronts.
From a Scrum point of view, how is this exhibiting the values of courage, openness, respect, focus, and commitment in the true sense of those values? How would you feel if I came to you and started similarly by saying you don’t get it and must do it my way? I am sure it will ruffle your feathers, right? How is starting a conversation like that going to win them over?
Are we not just doing the same thing, barking out how to do things in a command-and-control way? We really must stop having cracks at management saying they are wrong. We must change our stance to mentor, coach, and lead by helping them. Words matter!
It's time we raise the bar and do this better. Join my member community to discuss ways we can do this better.
Do you think this is helping win them over, or is it fueling them to resist agile?
