There’s a lot of noise in the industry about benchmarks, maturity models, and “where you sit” compared to others. It’s time to call it what it is:
A distraction.
Stop measuring yourself against a model built by outsiders who don’t know your business.
Stop comparing your teams to others who work in different contexts with different goals and constraints.
Your business is unique. Your problems are unique. Each team is unique.
So your path forward needs to be as well.
You don’t win by being a “Level 4” or beating some industry average. There is zero value in that besides inflating egos.
You win by identifying what’s holding you back and start fixing that.
Spend your energy there.
Work on your systems.
Fix what’s not working.
Build what’s needed.
Focus on your own effectiveness and not someone else’s version of progress.
You do you. That’s where the real gains are.
Comparison is noise. Active improvement is the point.
